Boxing Day Outing

26/12/2008

I still remembered I was shopping all day long when I was still in Australia on Boxing Day. As every shop will be having big sale! Hard to resist that kind of discounts!
But there's no special sale during this day in Malaysia.
So my friends and I went for movie and makan instead of shopping.

We went to have our boxing day's lunch at Manhantan Fish market.
The food is okay, but fried muchrooms will be the best for me!
It similars to those in TGIF.

We went for YES MAN right after lunch.
It's a little boring during the start of the show.
But it's getting funny in the middle part.
I got the message of the movie:

Only saying YES from your heart instead of everything that comes into our life.

I'll rate this movie 7/10.

After the movie, Kiew and Seng kept on persuading me to go for the second movie which is IP MAN. They told me it's super nice and worth watching!
Since the others guys were fine with our decision to go for the second movie, so there we went and got the tickets for IP MAN.

I haven't watch any HK movies for quite sometimes due to the storyline and the quality of the films.
However IP MAN is really an impressive martial art kind of movie.
Donnie Yen really put in effort in learning the WING CHUN style of martial art.
But I was wondering how and where did WING CHUN originated from?
Jet told us WING CHUN is originated by a local Buddhist nun, Ng Mui.
I thought he was just simply answering our question.
So I went home and wiki-ed for more details.
Yeah, he was right!

According to the wiki info, Ng Mui took the lessons she learned from observing the fight between the snake and the crane and combined them with her own knowledge of Shaolin Kung Fu to create a new style.

Ng Mui often bought her bean curd at the tofu shop of Yim Yee (嚴二). Yim Yee had a daughter named Yim Wing Chun (嚴詠春) whom a local warlord was trying to force into marriage. Ng Mui taught her new fighting style to Wing-Chun, who used it to fend off the warlord once and for all. Wing-Chun eventually married a man she loved, Leung Bok-Chao (梁博儔), to whom she taught the fighting techniques that Ng Mui had passed on to her. Husband and wife in turn passed the new style on to others (from wikipedia).

Thus after watching this movie, it made me understanding more about the history of WING CHUN!
I'll rate this movie 9/10 for the excellent martial art scenes!

Strawberry Shortcake Trip Part 2

21/12/2008

All of us still managed to wake up on time at 8am.
We had our breakfast at this mamak stall in Tanah Rata.
The weather is so cold in the early morning!
That made us need to finish our food faster, if not the food will definitely becoming cold as well!

Look at this coconut tree which is just in front of us, the strong wind which made it became senget in style huh!!!

We went to visit Boh Tea Plantation at Sungai Palas right after breakfast to avoid the crowds especially it was a Sunday.

The road sign showed that it was just a merely 2km drive to go in there.
However, due to the super winding road and slopes, it made me felt that the journey is more than 2km!
I really salute to those people who walk into the tea plantation!
As the road is so small and dangerous. At one point in a slope corner, only 1 car is allows to pass by while the other cars will need to stop nearby first in order to let the car from the another direction to drive pass.

Anyway, it's worthwhile going there as the view is spectacular!!!

On our way going up to the tea center.

The cafe where we had our tea and scones!

Finally we had arrived at the tea center!

The scone is better than the one in T-cafe! More expensive too, RM 5 per scone!
But no fresh strawberry jam and cream, too bad!!!

We ordered 2 scones and 2 pots of tea to share.
Earl grey tea is very nice to go with scones!
But eating here is not cheap, as the tea doesn't charge in per pot but in per person basis, which is RM 3 pp.
They will also charged for refilling the hot water, RM 1.50 per pot.
Well, tourist place is all about money!

But I'm in love with the view up there!!!

After the visitation to the tea center, we went to the some nearby shops along the road to walk around.

Jet has been waiting for the chips for so LONGGGGGGGGG!!!
The service is super duper SLOW!!!

We also went to Smoke House for pictures taking purpose.

But we couldn't enter further into Smoke House as it was dedicated for their in-house guests and patrons only.

It was almost lunch time after all the visitation.
Time for us to go back to the apartment to check-out and have a light lunch before heading down.

The left over from the drinking session last night.

And we had this Tang Yuen as the happy ending for our lunch at Cameron!

Strawberry Shortcake Trip Part 1

20/12/2008

We have been planning a trip to Cameron Highlands few months ago.
The date has been set and we have even booked for the apartment.
However, Yvonne couldn't join us last minute due to some emergency matter.
Ended up 6 of us going for the trip.
We drove 2 cars up there, and the journey took us about 4 hours to arrive at Cameron.

We stopped by at this Greenview Garden to have a short break.
The guys even bought ice cream to eat, enjoying the cooling weather!

We were supposed to check-in at 1pm. Unfortunately, the room was yet to be ready.
We were told that we could only check-in around 2pm.
So went to have our lunch at T-cafe as I was craving for scones!!!
Heard that they have the best scones in Cameron!
Well, T-cafe is like a family-run restaurant.
So it's kind of home feel inside.

Okay, so this is the scone.

They even have the ready mix scone flour selling so that you can make your own scone at home.
The scone is not bad, but it will be really nice if they could provide fresh home made strawberry jam together with fresh cream!
I'm missing the Devonshire Tea set that I had in Shot Tower, Hobart.
Really nice yummy scones and jams and also a pot of hot English Tea!

We went to visit another Flower farm after we had checked-into the apartment right after lunch.

This is the prettiest flowers I saw up there!
Nicely in pink & white combination!
It's called as Azelea (杜鵑).
A big pot costs RM 58 whereas a small pot costs RM 25.

Just when we were happily taking pics at these flowers and cactus farms.
Bryan found out that he had lost his wallet!!!
We tried to search around but couldn't find it.
So we helped him to call the banks to cut off his ATM and credit cards.
And we also went to the Brinchang police station to make apolice report on this.
The funniest part is each of us need to get the visitor's pass in order to enter the police station.
It's really a joke!
What if I'm in dangerous and I need to go straight into the police station immediately?
I really can't understand what is the purpose for that!

Anyway,I have just received the good news from Bryan informing us that one of the worker in the cactus farm found his wallet.
Everything was still there except his RM 200 cash.
He should really be grateful and thank god for this!

That incident didn't really screw up our holiday plan as Bryan is still fine.
So we went to have steamboat dinner after the police report.

We went to walk around the night market but too bad it was raining half way!
Just right after we bought some must have local food like steam sweet potato, fried potatoes balls, steam sweet corns. And it came the rain!
We have no choice but to go back to the apartment earlier to have shower.

They guys were having their earlier mahjong session.

And then it comes to the present exchange session!
This year is different from the previous year as we have draw lots earlier in order to know who should we buy the present for.
So it make a lot more easier in choosing the gift as we know what should we buy for that specific person.

The drinking session before the game starts!

Looks like I'm enjoying drinking my orange vodka! As it's so fruity based!

Kiew was the camera girl for this pic!

Kiew was the "Santa Rina" that night, busy giving out the gifts that we have gathered in the bag.
As Yvonne was supposed to buy her the gift and she was the one who's in-charge for Yvonne's present. Since Yvonne is not there, so they'll only exchange themselves back in KL.

Jet's gift from Ying.

Seng's gift from Bryan.

Ying's gift from me! Sweetscents Pigments especially for her!

Bryan's gift from Seng

My gift from Jet. It's a bracelet.

It was fun throughout the night as we were chatting about everything till 2am.
But we still manage to have a good sleep and woke up at 8am. Haha!
